At least 11 passengers of the microbus were killed and six injured in a collision between a train and a microbus at a railway crossing in Mirsrai upazila of Chittagong on Friday. Nine of the dead have been identified.
Students and teachers of a coaching center named ‘R&J Plus’ located in Aman Bazar area of Hathajari Upazila of the district.
The four teachers killed are Jisan, Sajib, Rakib and Redwan. The deceased students are Hisham, Ayat, Maruf, Tasfeer and Hasan, all of them are SSC and HSC candidates. The six injured are – microbus helper Taukid Ibn Shawon (20, 11). Class students Md. Mahim (18), Tanveer Hasan Hriday (18), Md. Imon (19) and SSC candidates Tashmir Pabel (16) and Md. Saikot (18).
Hathajari Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Shahidul Alam said that the accident occurred when the Chittagong-bound Prabhati Express train hit the victim’s microbus while returning from Mirsarai’s Khaiachhara waterfall at around 12:45 p.m.
The Railway Authority has constituted a committee of five members. To investigate the incident. The level crossing gateman has been picked up for questioning.
Chittagong Railway Police Chief Hasan Chowdhury told the media, “We have not arrested him yet. He is being interrogated to know what happened there before the accident.
