TE24 International Desk:
At least 22 people were killed and 33 injured in a car crash in southern Egypt’s Menya governorate on Tuesday, officials said.
The accident occurred early in the morning when a passenger bus collided with a stopped truck on the highway connecting the capital Cairo and the country’s south, local authorities in Minya said in a statement.
Officials said in a statement that the bus was changing tires on the side of the road when it met a truck in Minya province, Malawi, about 220 km (137 miles) south of Cairo. An ambulance reached the spot and took the injured to Minya Hospital.
Thousands of people die in road accidents every year in Egypt and the traffic safety record is inadequate. Accidents are primarily caused by speeding, rough roads or inadequate enforcement of traffic rules.
