Bangladesh has fetched $1.04 billion from the exports of agricultural products during the July-April period of current 2021-22 fiscal year, posting a 26.26 percent growth over the same period of the last fiscal year.
Commodity of horticultural items during a similar 10-month of the last financial year was $824.59 million, as per the most recent information of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
Commodity of vegetables, tobacco, cut blossom, foliage and organic products has expanded among the farming items. Commodity of tea, flavors, dry food has declined during the period.
Monjurul Islam, counsel of Bangladesh Fruits, Vegetables and Allied Products Exporters Association (BFVAPEA), let the Daily Sun know that development of nuisance and sickness free vegetables and organic products has expanded, bringing about an ascent in trade pay from agro items.
“Assuming the act of safe vegetable and organic products creation is extended the nation over, send out pay from agribusiness area will increment to $10-15 billion inside 2-3 years,” he said.
“The public authority has figured out a National Action Plan to help the development of nuisance free and quality vegetables and organic products for homegrown utilization and commodities,” said Dr Shamim Ahmed, extra agent chief (Tuber Crops, Vegetable and Spices) of Horticulture Wing of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE).
“The activity plan frames the creation and post-collect administration practices to deliver top notch and safe vegetables and natural products to consent to public and global market principles. Contract cultivating has been made compulsory in the activity plan,” he said.
The office assists with consenting to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Agreement on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS arrangement) and the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), he informed.
