TE24 Entertainment Desk:
After a disappointing June and July box office, there was finally good news for the Telugu film industry yesterday as Bimbisa opened with strong numbers. A fantasy action film starring Nandamuri Kalyan Ram collected around Rs 950 crore in India on Friday, taking a share of Rs 625 crore.
Telugu made up the bulk of the revenue with its Rs 8.8 crore on the first day. The opening day numbers are a career best for Kalyan Ram, doubling his all-time opener ISM (2016) to earn Rs. He has Rs 42 billion (300 million shares) in Telugu states.
The movie has a good start, but overall the initial audience response is quite good. Over the past two months, the industry has been pretty dire, with films like Thank You, Rama Rao On Duty, Ante Sundarniki, Pakka Commercial failing to make gains at the box office and despite the release of The Warrior, the reception to Darkness I Wasn’t By Your Side received. Bimbisar was successful on both fronts and proved to be an industry hit.
The worldwide theatrical rights of the film earned around Rs. 15 crores which should probably be recovered fairly easily over the weekend. $225,000 in revenue is expected.
As follows on the first day of regional division of Bimbisar:
Allotment – Rs.1.65 Crores (Rs. 1.25 Crore Shares)
3.85 crore (Rs. 2.75 crore shares)
AP/TS – Rs 8.80 crore (Rs 5.90 crore shares)
Karnataka – Rs 50 lakh (Rs 25 lakh shares)
Tamil Nadu/Kerala – Rs 10 lakh (Rs 5 lakh shares)
Rest of India – Rs 10 lakh (Rs 5 lakh shares)
India – Rs 9.50 crore (Rs 6.25 crore shares)
The other Telugu release this week, Seetha Ramm starrer Mollywood superstar Dulquer Gadh has taken a good start and grossed Rs. 2.75 crore in Telugu and around Rs. 400 crore in India. More details after the weekend.
