WASHINGTON – The United States has not seen China evade sanctions or supply military equipment to Russia, a senior U.S. official said Thursday, adding that weeks ago the necessary implementation estimates were nominated by certain Chinese agencies, not public authorities.
The Commerce Department on Tuesday added five Chinese companies to an exchange boycott to protect Russia’s military support and modern bases as Moscow continues its conflict in Ukraine.
U.S. officials have warned of consequences, including sanctions, if China offers material aid to the conflict in Russia, but has said reliably that they cannot distinguish between Moscow’s current vague Chinese military and financial patronage.
“China is not offering material aid. It is a normal course-of-business activity against the elements that have been set up for Russia,” a senior Biden official told Reuters, referring to the trade boycott.
“We have not seen the PRC (People’s Republic of China) allow Russia to take part in precise avoidance or provide military gear,” the authorities said in a statement.
The United States has traveled with partners to reject Russian President Vladimir Putin for infiltration, which Moscow has called an “extraordinary activity,” supporting a bunch of Russian agencies and oligarchs and linking others to an exchange boycott.
China will not condemn Russia’s actions and has condemned the general Western consensus in Moscow. Beijing also said it would not provide military assistance to Russia or Ukraine, but would take “necessary measures” to protect the rights of its agencies.
The Commerce Department’s activity implies that U.S. providers need a permit before they can send items to recorded companies. However, the division has similarly selected many different elements with some in mind for partner countries such as the United Kingdom and Lithuania.
