In the Sarinpur forest area of Sitakunda, Chittagong, mountain demolition equipment and trucks were seized. Chittagong County Administration, Police, Ministry of Environment (DOE), RAB conducted a joint operation on Friday.
Sitakunda Model Police Division Officer (OC) Abul Kalam Azad told Business Standards that three excavators, three dump trucks and trucks used for illegal logging and mound delivery were seized in the raid.
“We have launched a raid against Mohammad Yasin in response to allegations of illegal hill mining,” added Aam Karam Azad. On July 15, DOE and district officials visited Alinagar along with local officials. On his way back from his visit, Mohammad Yachin attacked local UP member Mohammad Arif.
Two cases have been filed against Yashin. One was by Arif’s brother who assaulted UP members, and the other by the administrator for illegally felling trees in the hills.
Ferdous Anwar, deputy director of DoE, Chattogram, Md Al Mamun, executive magistrate of the District Administration, Md Ashraful Alam, assistant commissioner (land) of Sitakunda, members of Rab and police participated in the raid.
