BPL champions Bashundhara Kings ended the domestic season 2021-2022 by defeating Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club 2-1 in the last match of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League at the Bashundhara Kings Arena in the capital’s Bashundhara Sports Complex on Saturday.
The Kings had earlier sealed their hat-trick of BPL titles by beating Saif Sporting Club 2-0 with two matches to spare in their 20th match at Munshiganj on 18 July and they then beat their nearest rivals Dhaka Abahani 3-2. 21st match at Bashundhara Sports Complex on 25th July.
Forward Matin Miah and Kings’ Brazilian captain Robson Robinho scored one each for the champions in the 8th and 53rd minutes, while midfielder Sohanur Rahman netted for Sheikh Jamal in the 69th minute.
Sheikh Jamal’s Uzbek forward Otabek Valizonov and Kings defender Bashiwanath Ghosh received their marching orders after receiving red cards just minutes before the final whistle.
Kings were presented with the Champions Trophy and players’ medals at an awards ceremony following the day’s matches.
Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Football Federation Abdus Salam Murshedi, First Vice President of BAUF Imrul Hasan, BAUF Secretary General Abu Naeem Sohag, other members of BAUF Executive Committee and other celebrities were present.
At the end of the game, Sheikh Russell Kurila Chakra Ltd presented a bouquet of flowers to Kings President Imrul Hasan and Sheikh Jamal’s team acted as guard of honor before the start of the game.
Meanwhile, the Kings won their first and second BPL titles in the 2018–19 and 2021 seasons, but the 2019–20 season was abandoned due to Covid. The top team won two Federation Cup titles in 2019–20 and 2020–21, the Independence Cup title in 2018–19 and the upcoming Bangladesh Championship League title in 2017–18.
