North Korean Secretary of State Kim Jong-un said North Korea is “ready to build a nuclear deterrent in future military confrontations with the United States and South Korea,” state media reported Thursday.
Washington and South Korea have repeatedly warned that North Korea is preparing to conduct its seventh nuclear test, and the United States has warned that the move would trigger a “swift and strong” response.
In a recent speech by Chairman Kim to commemorate the armistice that ended fighting in the Korean War, known as “Victory Day” in North Korea, he said the country’s armed forces were ready for any crisis. He said it was “absolutely” ready, AFP reported.
“Our nuclear war deterrent is ready to mobilize its absolute power faithfully, accurately and swiftly for its mission,” Kim Jong-un said in a speech on Wednesday, according to Pyongyang’s Korean Central News Agency.
In a speech to veterans commemorating the 69th anniversary of the end of the 1950-53 Korean War, Kim emphasized the country’s “perfect readiness” to “conduct all military conflicts with the United States.” did
His latest threat comes as South Korea and the United States, which have always angered North Korea, are conducting joint military drills, in what North Korea considers to be the first exercise of aggression in South Korea since 2019.
Kim also accused South Korea’s hawkish President Yoon Suk-yul, who took power in May and has vowed to take a strong stance against Pyongyang, including plans to build a preemptive strike capability.
Talking about military action against our nation, which possess absolute weapons that they fear the most, is preposterous and is very dangerous self-destructive action,” Kim said of the Yoon administration, which he branded a group of “gangsters.
Such a dangerous attempt will be immediately punished by our mighty power, and Yun Seok-yul’s government and his army will be wiped out.”
