Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina emphasized on exports to earn foreign exchange instead of relying on remittances. He said, “Instead of relying only on remittances, we need to focus more on exports to earn foreign exchange.
The Prime Minister urged all stakeholders to diversify their local products to open up new markets abroad.
He opened 24 Technical Training Centers (TTCs) at Uzara level, including the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Centenary TTC, effectively attended from Ganababan’s official residence.
Bureau of Human Resource and Employment Training (BMET) organized a program at Osmani Memorial Hall in the city.
He said, “If we want to find new markets abroad, we have to take initiatives to earn foreign currency by diversifying domestic products.” Pointing out that some people in the country make absurd comments and spread rumors about the foreign exchange reserves, the Prime Minister said that the foreign exchange reserves are generally more or less high.
I think the foreign exchange reserves are enough to buy three months worth of groceries, he continued. However, Bangladesh needs to reduce its dependence on other countries for consumer goods and food.
We can make better use of people and our fertile land. We need to modernize the food preservation process and significantly develop the food processing industry.”
Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad, its parliamentary affairs committee Chairman Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud, Secretary Dr Ahmed Munirus Saleheen and BMET Director General Md Shahidul Alam, spoke on the occasion. A documentary on the TTCs was screened at the function.
