Indian captain Rohit Sharma, wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik arrived in Trinidad and Tobago early on Tuesday to join the rest of the Indian team for the five-match Twenty20 series against the West Indies, starting on March 29.
Rohit, Pant, and Karthik shared the same picture on their Instagram handles to let fans know where they were. The photo shows three Indian cricketers in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Trinidad and Tobago. Rohit and Pant uploaded the picture on Instagram with almost the same caption, while Karthik uploaded the same on his Instagram story. Pant had earlier shared pictures of the flight with Rohit and Karthik in an Instagram story.
Rohit, Pant, Karthik and other top stars like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are rested from the ODI leg of the West Indies series. However, except for Corey and Bumura, everyone else will join the T20 squad. This will serve as preparation for the T20 World Championship in Australia later this year.
Ravichandran Ashwin, Kurdeep Yadav and Harshal Patel will also join the Indian squad for the T20 series. Deputy Captain KL Rahul, who tested positive for Covid-19 a few days ago, may have to wait a few more days to travel to the Caribbean islands.
Under the captaincy of Shikhar Dhawan, India has already taken a 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. The left-handers who are not in the T20I squad will travel to India after the third ODI on Wednesday. Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson Shardul Thakur, Prasidh Krishna and others will also return to Japan after the ODI series.
The first T20I will be played in Trinidad, followed by two matches in St. Kitts. Both teams will then travel to Florida to play the final two games of the series.
